A community activist who made a habit of confronting the powerful and had filed papers to run for D.C. mayor was fatally shot early yesterday in a park a block away from the city's thriving new convention center.
Chris Crowder, 44, was shot multiple times and found by police next to his wheelchair.

In a sign of Democratic unity, Mark Wilson will tomorrow officially endorse Maria Cantwell and announce his intention to campaign for the Senator full time, NPI has learned.
The news, which may come as a surprise to many in the state's political circles, is a great sign that the State Democratic Party is quite healthy going into the 2006 midterm elections. While we Democrats prize dissent and the freedom to speak our minds, we also know how important it is to be united.

While the first two stories make logical sense, this last one has me wondering... was Wilson a plant from the start, or did they get to him? He campaigned for 16 months only to give up two months before the primary- huh? Cantwell voted for the Iraq War, hasn't done jack to hold Bush and Co accountable on the Lies, Patriot Act, Spying, Oil co looting, Halliburton corruption, etc. Just recently she sponsored the "Iran Freedom Support Act".... ie war with Iran is coming up sooner than you think. She's not really a Democrat, but just another establishment ho posing as a 'representative'- and now the 'progressive' anti-war, anti-patriot-act challenger suddenly turns around and says he backs her 100%... wtf, eh?
