Since the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in 1989, Don Young has accepted over $900,000 from the Oil & Gas Industry. The Oil giants are raking in record profits with Exxon King of the hill, yet 17 years later, they still haven't paid over 20,000 Alaska fishermen. Don Young has done nothing other than cashing Exxon's checks.
Aside from the $83,000 in corporate jet travel, in 1999 Mr. Young took a trip to the Marshall Islands organized by Jack Abramoff.
At the time of the trip, Rep. Young was Chairman of the House Resources Committee, which handles issues pertaining to U.S. territories and freely-associated states like the RMI. The revelation of the trip, however, comes at a difficult time for Young.
Roll Call recently reported that he wrote letters to the General Services Administration, allegedly on behalf of Abramoff's tribal clients. That, together with the fact that a former aide of his went to work for Abramoff, and that he's been on the side of a number of Abramoff's clients, has kept the heat on. On Tuesday, in a guest editorial for The Anchorage Daily News, he insisted: "I have never had any personal or professional relationship with Abramoff."
The Anchorage Daily News reported:
[Young] in 2002 signed a letter prepared by Mr. Abramoff, urging a federal agency to change its bidding rules on a building lease -- a change that would help steer the lease toward one of the lobbyist's clients. Five weeks later, two of Mr. Abramoff's Indian tribal clients gave Rep. Young's leadership political action committee $7,000.
One of the members of "Team Abramoff" was Duane Gibson (#8), former aide to Don Young.
There's even more info on Young's capades here, including stuff about sweatshop labor and worse in CNMI, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Alaska: It is our duty to send Honest Representatives to Congress!
Since the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill in 1989, Don Young has accepted over $900,000 from the Oil & Gas Industry. The Oil giants are raking in record profits with Exxon King of the hill, yet they still haven't paid over 20,000 Alaska fishermen and their families after the disastrous oil spill. Exxon has avoided paying out the $5 Billion settlement- 17 years later they are still stalling, and our Congressman Don Young has done nothing but cash their checks.
If you think Exxon should pay Alaska's Fishermen (+interest), then vote for "Ben Frank" for Congress Tell all of your friends to vote in the Primary Aug 22nd.

How can I possibly hope to win without getting monetary donations?
