Bush Committed a Crime-Congress Must Be Forced to Impeach

Filed under: headline news — Lula @ 6:36 am

As happy Americans are dancing with joy over the recent election mandate for accountability, Democratic Party leaders are coming out trying to dampen the spirit. The corporate media has paraded them through, first Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean and when that wasn’t enough to shut up the cries for impeachment, John Conyers and Rahm Emmanuel came forth to say impeachment is off the table. Have they been paying any attention to what has been happening in this country?

First of all, It is generally agreed that this election was a statement about the war in Iraq, which is why the first order of business is to bring our troops home now! Bipartisan Legislation was introduced by members of Congress Dennis Kucinich, Ron Paul, Walter Jones and Neil Abercrombie “Homeward Bound” callling for the return of our troops starting October 2006. Contact your congressperson and tell them to sign on or introduce a similar bill immediately. Also contact Nancy Pelosi(use zip code 94110) or email her directly and tell her to bring the bill to the floor of the House as soon possible.

Secondly, this election is a mandate for accountability and the previously failing opposition party has a new chance to pursue the original goals of our founders. Bush has committed many crimes, but with time being a concern, I believe we should just focus on illegal wiretapping and remove Bush from office based on that alone ASAP….Johnathon Turley said it best at Conyer’s hearing on NSA spying

The Supreme Court has rejected the very claims being made by the President with regard to the NSA operation, it is in direct contradiction of FISA.

Now I want to be absolutely clear, what the President ordered in this case was a crime. Now we can debate whether he had a good or bad motivation, but it was a crime.

The federal law makes it clear- you cannot engage in this type of domestic surveillance without committing a crime.

We can debate the wisdom of that, we can debate why the President may have done it, but in my view, the President committed a crime, and we have to deal with that as citizens. And unfortunately, you have to deal with that as members of Congress.

It strikes an alarming circumstance when the President can go into a press conference and announce that he has violated a federal statute 30 times, and promises to continue to do so until someone stops him. That is the most remarkable admission that I have ever heard from a President of the United States…

John Conyers held this hearing but apparently wasn’t listening.

Don’t get me wrong, I am beyond thrilled at the change in direction of our country. However, I have witnessed the appeasement of the Bush administration for too long, and I know that the Democratic Party has some problems when they pass the Iran Freedom Support Act with only 22 Dems voting No in the House of Representatives, and 21 Democratic Cosponsors in the Senate. These people cannot be blindly trusted to do the people’s business, they must be forced to act on our behalf.

Now that the Democrats won, it is time to impeach for such actions as the gov’t rountinely violating our Constitutional rights.
They violate the 1st Amendment by caging demonstrators and banning books like “America Deceived” from Amazon.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns during Katrina.
They violate the 4th Amendment by conducting warrant-less wiretaps.
They violate the 5th and 6th Amendment by suspending habeas corpus.
They violate the 8th Amendment by torturing.
The violate the entire Constitution by starting 2 illegal wars based on lies and on behalf of a foriegn gov’t.
Fix up that, impeach him and while you are at it, investigate 9/11 a bit more thoroughly.

  2. Wimp Dems are Traitors too! Says:

Bush “committed a crime”, the high crime of authorizing domestic spying on Citizens without a warrant, more than 30 times! and lied about it while on the campaign trail, then again when caught… yet the Dem Leadership acts like they’re a bunch of undercover agents for Karl Rove.

Democrats Won’t Try To Impeach President

    Pelosi: “it’s off the table”

Daly said Pelosi never considered impeachment a priority. Republicans “are in such desperate shape,” he said, “we don’t want to give them anything to grab on to.” He said Conyers agrees with Pelosi’s thinking.

Here’s another analysis, from former Nixon counsel John Dean

“If the Bush Administration intentionally manipulated or misrepresented intelligence to get Congress to authorize, and the public to support, military action to take control of Iraq, then that would be a monstrous misdeed.

This administration may be due for a scandal. While Bush narrowly escaped being dragged into Enron, which was not, in any event, his doing. But the war in Iraq is all Bush’s doing, and it is appropriate that he be held accountable.

To put it bluntly, if Bush has taken Congress and the nation into war based on bogus information, he is cooked. Manipulation or deliberate misuse of national security intelligence data, if proven, could be “a high crime” under the Constitution’s impeachment clause.”

Is lying about the reason for a war an impeachable offense?

  4. bob Says:

why did i bother to vote , i could of had this with a republican congress.
sad. America needs a third party

  5. jerseycynic Says:

    what Bob said!!

  6. Jody Paulson Says:

Yes. America does need a viable third party. One thing we should work for as a people is a way to institute one, as in — support instant runoff voting (or some other voting mechanism that better supports true democracy and not a two-party system that is really “Hard-Ass Corporatism” and “Corporatism Lite.”

BTW, Nancy Pelosi’s hometown of San Francisco just voted 60% in favor of “Adopting a Policy Calling for the Impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.” http://www.smartvoter.org/2006/11/07/ca/sf/meas/J/

    Listen up, Madam Speaker!

  7. pissedoffpatriot Says:

Does anyone really expect things to be different? The only real differences are that Bush has lost his rubber stamp Congress and we now have more Jewish/Israeli members of our Government. Was this a quid pro quo? With the Aipac investigation dragging on for years, Bush’s inability to ‘win’ in Iraq and Afghanistan despite the obvious blatant lies that were used to justify this and Israel giving deadlines to Iran it looks to me like we will just have more of the same although hopefully not as much confrontative rhetoric (”a vote for the democrats is a vote for the terrorists”). Dual national citizens should NEVER NEVER be allwed in Federal jobs. I do not want an Israeli (”Israel first, ALWAYS!!”) American making life or death choices for us-your government and its employees should be Americans First, second and third! The bottom line is now the government can lie with impunity, detain anyone even citizens secretly and indefinately, monitor people any way they want, torture you as needed and there is NOTHING you can do about it. “They” are above the law- truth and justice are dead in Washington, have been for years.

  8. NZ Says:

I don’t think we should try and impeach Bush but I don’t think Saddam should hang either.

I have been against the Bush presidency as a point of fact since before the 2000 election. I agree with many of Bush’s Domestic policy as he was a Governer. I am against him roughly 55%.

The crimes the Bush administration has perpetuated are worse than what Saddam Hussien committed during his time. The effects of Bush policy are the crimes with what I speak but I understand why the crimes where committed.

The heavy heart Bush carries to bed with him at night is probably punishment enough, but I do feel he senses, generally, he had to make the decisions he made. I don’t think his crimes are comparable to a man who would rape and murder a child himself. Nothing equates to the latter on a personal level for so many. Yes Bush’s crimes may have lead to the worse atrocities known to us. Those kinds of crimes need a global transparent, extreme punishment for deterrance effect at the personal level.

We cannot hang Hussien because if he dies Bush’s crimes would be equivalent. As long as he controls nuclear weapons we cannot allow Bush to think we will seek retribution in kind.

Extreme values on either end could be seen as treason. We must accept and understand and work harder, sacrifice more to show the world America can propogate a more sustainable, livable, and fair society to as many as we can. We have to take our foot off the accelerator. Perhaps America again realize the value of driving 55.

“The heavy heart Bush carries to bed with him at night is probably punishment enough”

You can’t be serious. This guy was cracking jokes pretending to look for WMDs under a chair. He smirks when he talks of the dead troops he is responsible for killing. Impeachment is a constitutional imperative.

  10. David Says:

Given all the potential for voting fraud in the elections, one can’t be certain that the powers that be “let” the democrats win as a way to vent off all the anger and frustration people are feeling in order to protect other agendas ie:North American Union, continuing hostilities toward Iran and Syria, domestic spying, etc.

Indeed, many people seem content with the democratic party victory and feel now that they don’t have to worry any more. But with Dean, Pelosi and now Conyers saying impeachment is off the table, it is very hard not to feel that nothing has changed. This within just two days of the election results.

America is at war with its people, and denial, while it is certainly an option, will protect no-one. People need to hammer their congressmen and senators to take action. If they don’t, we all will know that the fix is in.

  12. Bill Gallagher Says:

Nancy Pelosi looks like a souless zombie and dead-eyed retired old whore. Take back your country from that Neo-Con boot licker and those like her, who no longer have any values at all. Take back what is yours before the money loving ,two-timing, con-artists who are sailing America towards the rocks and have betrayed your trust and have decide they will take America and all of her good people down with the ship. Take back your honor and respect that your history proves so rightfully earned in this world. Show them you are not the enemies of the Muslim people or any race for that matter , if there is any true christian values left in America, hold those accountable and have them correct the mistakes made by the false leaders of the land and all will be forgiven. That is a nation I know the Iraqi people would want to make peace with.

    God Save America.

Bush is only the puppet on the strings. Strings drawn by unseen puppet masters.
Target the puppet masters to realize true change. Take responsibility now.

  14. Spartacus Jones Says:

Looks like the Democrats have just broken the land speed record for the world’s fastest double-cross.
    Big surprise?
    Not really.
Numerous democrats like Hillary Clinton (why in hell isn’t she running as a Republican, anyway???) have been supporting Dubya’s neo-fascist circle-jerk, chapter and verse, for the last 6 years.
They’re not going to have hearings now in which their own culpability will unavoidably become clear.

This election reminds me of what my Dad taught me about cheating at cards: you have to let the suckers think they’ve won a hand every now and then, just to keep them on the hook.

  15. Billy Says:

Anyone who believes the elections are REAL is a fool. They are not and they NEVER have been real. If you own both sides in any match, YOU win. Same is true with the elections. BOTH major parties are OWNED outright by the same private organizations who dictate ALL the policy.

CFR, Trilateral Commission, Bilderbergers, Bohemian Grovers, Zionists, Masons, Skull & Bones, Scroll & Key etc. etc.

    THEY are the true government.

But even after you accept that fact you have to realize that there are OTHERS in behind of THOSE organizations that control the outcome of everything.

Smoke and mirrors. The elections are nothing more than another weapon of mass distraction.

Everyone must go top down. All of those organizations and ANY organization that use politics to further private agendas MUST be banned from holding office. Period.

To do any less is a waste of time.

  16. Gregg Zimmerman Says:

The only reason impeachment should be off the table is because it is on the Dems plate!!

There is a way Jesse Ventura speaks the truth about 911.
