Norah is right. We The People Have No Representation

Filed under: headline news — Lula @ 1:25 pm

A recent interview with Norah O’Donnell and Cindy Sheehan illustrates exactly what is going wrong in our discussions over the war in Iraq. Current polls show that an overwhelming majority of Americans want a plan to withdraw the troops from Iraq, and yet because congress is ignoring what the American people want, we must be the extreme and “in the fringes”? There seems to be a real disconnect going on here, and the corporate media and congress are living in a bubble.

Video Noran challenges Cindy Sheehan(thanks to crooks and liars)

O‘DONNELL: And nor, quite frankly, do you see members of Congress—and you claim to not be in the fringes, to not be an extremist, and yet what members of Congress support you in your policy?…

Let me challenge you on this, Cindy, because what you‘re calling for is, in fact, an extreme position, because there are very few members of Congress who support immediate withdrawal. You would, if you could, fly a bunch of planes over there, pick up all our troops and take them home tomorrow, if you could, if it was in your power. There is no one in the United States Congress, Democrat, Republican or Independent who would do that.

Norah is right that we have no Representation in Washington DC. The American people want to bring the troops home from Iraq but Congress will not even agree to a timetable. The American people want accountability! No one has held Bush accountable for Bush stealing the election in 2000 and 2004. No one has held Bush or congress accountable for violating our constitution with the ‘patriot’ act. No one has held Bush accountable for his illegal immoral attack on Iraq. No one has held Bush accountable for his gross inaction on 9/11 and katrina. No one has held him accountable for illegal wiretapping or lying about the fact that it is illegal. Congress is the most corrupt, most inept, most incompetent group of bumbling idiots we have ever had call themselves our government, but that doesn’t make their behavior okay. They have enabled Bush every step of the way on his evil rampage, but that certainly doesn’t make it right. It is congress who lives on the fringes, and they along with Bush must be removed ASAP.

I also like this part of the transcript which explains why Cindy is on her hunger strike and how she hopes that it will effect change…

O‘DONNELL: But you called him “the biggest terrorist in the world.”
So you are trashing the president.
SHEEHAN: Well, you know, he says a terrorist is somebody who kills innocent men, women and children, and there have been over 100,000 innocent men, women and children killed in Iraq on his orders.
O‘DONNELL: Cindy, you have just begun a two-month hunger strike.
Isn‘t this really just more of a publicity stunt?
SHEEHAN: No, actually it‘s not. It‘s a moral reaction to an immoral war. Thousands of people all over the world are joining us. And hunger strikes have proven to be effective tools in civil disobedience and changing policy.
O‘DONNELL: But do you honestly expect Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld or the president of the United States to say, Cindy Sheehan is going on a hunger strike and so I‘m going to end this war?
SHEEHAN: Well, that would be nice, but what we‘re trying to do is also awaken consciousness in the United States and around the world to get more people out and active, because we know two-thirds of America disapprove of George Bush and his policies in Iraq, but I don‘t see two-thirds of America out protesting, writing their congresspeople and changing policy.

Cindy Sheehan on Hunger Strike at the White House

Filed under: headline news — ben @ 4:10 pm

We’ve marched, held vigils, lobbied Congress, camped out at Bush’s ranch, we’ve even gone to jail, now it’s time to do more”

“This war is a crime,” the icon mother told a crowd of clapping, cheering protesters.

We represent millions of Americans who withdraw their support from this government.”

Millions of American have just watched in disgust as our congress ignored the will of the American people and voted against setting a timetable for withdrawing our troops from Iraq. Who exactly are they representing and what course of action do ‘we the people’ have at this point?

Cindy Sheehan has began a hunger strike at the White House and is pledging to stay as long as it takes until our government does right by our troops and the Iraqi people and returns US troops from Iraq immediately. If you browse around the net however, you wouldn’t even know that she and 150 patriots are camped out in direct confrontation of Bush and his policies. Cindy is providing the spark, but she needs our help to spread the word and raise the volume of our demands for justice.

Cindy needs our support to stop this war now. It is time to start asking questions of everyone who still supports these war crimes, starting with your ‘representative’ and senators.

Questions 4 Bush PDF Flyer

When discussing the 4th of July with friends and family, perhaps now is the time to gently remind them of the meaning of the holiday.

Sheehan said just because Tuesday is the 4th of July does not mean we should be celebrating.

“Everybody needs to stand up, go out of their comfort zone,” Sheehan said. “And I don’t understand how people can party tomorrow while people are suffering.”

Don’t just sympathize, open the window and yell,
“We’re mad as hell and we’re not taking it anymore!”
