New Patriot Act creates the “Secret Service, Uniformed Division”
America has never had a federal police force, but hidden in the new “Patriot” Act is language that creates just such a beast.
SEC. 605. THE UNIFORMED DIVISION, UNITED STATES SECRET SERVICE.
There is hereby created and established a permanent police force, to be known as the `United States Secret Service Uniformed Division’.
The Secret Service, Uniformed Division will not operate solely in DC, but anywhere former Presidents travel, or foreign dignitaries, or even “as the President, on a case-by-case basis, may direct.” #8
A federal police force, directed by the President. Is this not the Gestapo all over again?
If the new “Patriot” Act passes, the new SSUD federal police can show up at:
(11) An event designated.. as a special event of national significance.
(12) Major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates and, within 120 days of the general Presidential election…
A federal goon squad on hand to arrest any ‘disruptors’ during the next Presidential Election… how can you look in the mirror and tell yourself that there’s hope for 2008? Or is that just an excuse to continue doing nothing right now?

Who will compose the new SSUD?
MK Ultra is for real. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s reported fact that the CIA did 150+ experiments on mind control.
There is much published evidence that the project involved not only the use of drugs to manipulate persons, but also the use of electronic signals to alter brain functioning.
Their excuse was, “the Russians are doing mind-control”, so we have to research it as well, to see what they might be capable of… but for the CIA

Gottlieb was known to torture victims by locking them in sensory deprivation chambers while dosed on LSD, or to make recordings of psychiatric patients’ therapy sessions, and then play a tape loop of the patient’s most self-degrading statement over and over through headphones after the patient had been restrained in a straitjacket and dosed with LSD.
Forces within the US gov’t were doing this in the 60’s… now with the advances in technology, what are they capable of today?

All this does is place the Secret Service under the DHS, instead of the Treasury Dept. And there’s been a “uniformed division” of the Secret Service for decades.

What is you proof of a uniformed division of the S.S.
Unless black suits, sunglasses and earpieces are your definition of a “uniform”.
The United States Secret Service has been under the direction of the Treasury Department for over a 100 years and it has performed admirably. If the machine isn’t broke it does not need fixed.
As far as Uniformed S.S. agents go, we are quickly approaching a Police State and if you can not see that, then YOU, young man need to “get a grip”.

for crying out loud, just google “Secret Service Uniformed Devision.” How hard is that ?
The police force was created in 1860. All the Patriot act does is move it under the Department of Homeland Secuirty.

It’s clear to me that those in power now are abusing the laws, manipulating them to their will. As such, all new laws must be viewed with that in mind- will this allow them new leeway to abuse power? That much is obvious.
Funny how they just arrested Cindy Sheehan at the SotU, proving they’re not worried about terrorists, but about people that might speak out on national television.

The Federal government is Constitutionally barred from having a police force (we are not a police state). Congress has granted some powers to investigative agencies, but they are strictly limited in scope. To create a “Federal Police Force” is unconstitutional and would via language (police) bypass laws on the book now that restrict the powers of the Federal Government over that of the states. It is a backdoor attempt to grab powers beyond that alloted the President. If you don’t understand that, then perhaps you don’t deserve the freedom that others have fought and died for.

I’m pretty sure secret service were under the DHS from the first patriot act.
At least the dozens of secret service agents all had @dhs.gov.

We need to wake up and smell the coffee. Our rights are being taken away and having a Federal Police Force put in place should place fear in all. We may have had a secret service in place since the 1800’s but times have changed. The power this present president is forcing on us is against all that this country was built on. The Constitution and Bill of Rights are suppose to protect us and both are in dire straits. We need to start marching on the White House and demanding that the President be put in his place. The
President is suppose to be a leader and not a Dictator so states the Constitution. WE need to stop being treated like the enemy and more like US Citizens. People stand up and start marching on Washington before we lose this GREAT Nation. Contact your State Representatives, and Seniors. Let all know they will not get re-elected if they do not do something about the state of affairs we presently are experiencing.

I agree that the Federal govenment has grown bloated and overpowered, but as stated earlier in this discussion, look at the Secret Service web site and or look up the Secret Service Uniform Division (previously named the White House Police) history and you will see that this is nothing new. Also you must understand that all police are subject to that which is stated in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. If you read the ammedments you will find that their contents are mainly directed toward the restriction of the Government, in particular it’s enforcement agencies. Think to the roles of the three branches of the government. Is it not the Exective branch’s responsibility to enforce the laws that have been created by Congress and declared Constitutional by the Judicial? And where in the constitution does it prohibit a federal police force? Lastly, if you had no police who would enforce the law that already exist?

The Secret Serivice Uniformed Division came around in the 1920’s, and called the White House police.
I personally don’t really see what is wrong with having federal agents serving as security at national events such as presidential candidates speeches and protecting the president wherever he goes. No one here seems to care that the undercover agents are at all these places, and have been for years.
I believe the reason for the uniforms is so that they show more of a presence and would probably help deter any disruptions. So far as I can tell no one has any reason to be bothered by this unless they plan on disrupting something.

Sure, maybe the government is becoming a police state, Hitler’s reighn, Stalin’s stuff,…whatever.
I think if you believe in these conspiracy theories you might want to look somewhere other than the UD. Their roster is fairly small (about 1/3 the size of the Special Agents) and their duties are entirely protective. While I’m not saying you’re wrong to judge the government and while you should have an open and defensive mind, I think you’re a bit misguided in the power given to an entity that is rather small, and has existed for a long time (under different names)serving a nobel purpose.

Are you people serious? This is nothing but liberal propaganda. The sole function of the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division is to protect the president, the vice president, the White House, and wherever the president may be. They are the ones running the screening and metal detectors at the events that the president attends. All you are doing here is attempting to scare people into believing what you believe. The average person would probably be too lazy to really look into what the UD is all about, which is scary. The USSS UD has been around for almost 100 years. Get a grip.
