Take Action to Preserve Freedom: Write Senators to Encourage Filibuster on ‘Patriot’ Act
A few Republican Senators are planning on filibustering the new Patriot Act, (the House version makes permanent 14 out of 16 of the ’sunsetting’ provisions). They passed it right after 9/11, taking away our freedoms to protect us, telling us it would only be temporary. Now they’re trying to take our freedoms permanently by ramming this bill through a lazy Congress that just wants to go home for vacation.
Please call or fax these Senators, encouraging them to filibuster as long as it takes (in ‘71 Senator Mike Gravel filibustered for 5 months to end the draft!) Their sworn duty is to uphold the constitution, maybe we can encourage one or more of them to stand strong in the face of adversity.
