Problem at Camp Casey: Have the 212 Acres been declined?

Filed under: misc, Camp Casey, Cointelpro — ben @ 6:33 am

Fred Mattledge offered Camp Casey two lots, 1 acre and 212 acres on the other side of the road. According to the Lone Star Iconoclast, “that offer has changed”. Did Fred really take back the offer? A discussion on DU makes it appear that someone has convinced Camp Casey that the 212 acres is not necessary, or ‘they might damage the field’ … and they’ve told Fred “no thanks”. Instead they’re going to ask everyone to park in Crawford and get shuttled from town to camp on the one acre. And imagine our luck.. there’s a big football game Friday night, so nobody should come Friday because we’ll cause traffic problems in Crawford. Sure.

Something stinks about this and it ain’t the cow pies in the field. 212 acres is enough room for tons of people to park and camp and for a huge concert, or series of concerts - and they’d rather have everyone park in town and come out to camp on the one tiny acre? Give everyone a 10×10 space and that’s about 400 tents…. not good enough!

The difference between the USA and Ukraine is that the CIA was funding their revolution while they are actively diffusing ours. That 212 acre “no thanks” is not an accident. Lets hope the forces of good can reverse this decision ASAP. They infiltrated anti-war groups in the 70’s - and they’re doing it again today. We need a crew of intelligent Real Americans on hand in Crawford to challenge all bad decisions. ie Logically - why should we limit ourselves to one acre?

If we’re concerned about Fred’s field we can pay him some of the $90,000 (as reported by Cindy on Mike Malloy) that’s already been donated.

Bush is on a 5 week vacation- that’s thru labor day weekend- there is still plenty of time to build this tent city- the Ukrainians had a functioning tent city and thousands of citizens willing to brave cold weather by now. The masses coming out inspired a tv news crew to go on strike, they refused to lie anymore. The Revolution ensued.

I will gladly donate another $100 to offset the cost of repairing Fred’s 212-acre field.

I am sure many others will follow suit. Give us the chance!

  2. Woody (Woodrow) Garden Says:

We Americans have had the “Revolt” brainwashed right out of us. I have
seen few issues that are as clearly Black and White as the current war in
Iraq. EVERY “fact” told to us about the justification for this was has proved
to be a LIE. Almost every “fact” told to America about the events of 9/11
by the FBI has now proved to be a LIE, LIE, LIE, LIE. The entire timeline of
the most well know of the purported hijackers (Atta) presented to the 9/11
Commission has been disproved by Army Intel. We have been lied to so
many times by so many Govt officials that it is impossible to keep track of
all their lies. Just as One example: the FBI LIED about when Atta entered
the US. Why Lie? There is always a very good reason when the Govt is
lying to the people. What is the purpose of this particular lie? Also ask
yourself this: Who in the Legislature is currently fighting for the American
People; for OUR interests. In a situation which is so obviously wrong, evil,
dishonnest, etc, where is the outrage over murder and torture? The police
in England just MURDERED a man basically because he “looked Asian” and
still there is no outrage in Congress. This tells us all we need to know: Our
selected officials have abandoned us in favor of Haliburton. It is time to
put “ordinary” Americans into office instead of Boston Blue Bloods. Clinton
may have felt our pain. These people are past feeling.

  3. Patrick Says:

Sorry folks, but get real. They guy donated his property. This isn’t asphalt, it is pasture land. People standing on it, especially in large groups, render it to mud–which is very costly to reverse.

1 acre of land is plenty enough for a protest–hell they were on the edge of the road two miles further away before. If the guy wants to preserve his large parcel, lay off. He is donating a prime staging area for anti-war protests in a overwhelmingly red state. Get off his back.

If you want concerts, immense crowds, etc., send them to Crawford. If it gets that big, it won’t matter where it is happening–it will be headline news.

  4. A Soldier's Mom Says:

Something surely stinks about this. Pathetic. The landowner has been bought out, or he’s been threatened. They probably scurried around and found out he owed back taxes or some small petty thing and threatened to throw him in jail or something. Surely this man would not offer a sandwich and then give a crumb!!?? Wow, that’s sad. Maybe someone else nearby can donate some land???

Scary, it’s all so scary. My son leaves in a few weeks to go back to Iraq for his second full year of hell. I’m going to support him still though, somehow, I’m not going to say one negative word and I’m still going to tell him how proud of him I am. Which I am. Then I’m going to crawl home and cry days. I’m going to cry for him. I’m going to cry for his wife and two sons. I’m going to cry for all the military. I’m going to cry for our country that’s 2/3rds the way down the toilet. I’m going to cry at the memories of how America used to be not so long ago.

I support the fact that we should be afforded some answers, that’s it, just simple answers and guidance. I don’t understand how this “free” country can stand by and watch slavery come back, slavery to the rich this time. I don’t understand how so many military and civilian Americans, or so many innocent Iraqis can die everyday and everyone be okay with it. I don’t understand where our TV news went to. It’s like they are “The Enquirer” of news sources - just Hollywood crap and advertisements. I only use the internet anymore. Anyone without it is clueless.

Everything is so blantent and accepted. I agree no “representative” at any level cares about us poor working slobs. They’re all bought and paid for. Even if we found someone partially honest, the election process wouldn’t let us elect him/her anyways, right? We’re screwed.

Bottom line: I’m totally behind Cindy and I thank everyone who’s able to be there with her. As a 1-income homeowner, I can’t leave to be there myself, or I would. All I know is my quality of life has gone to hell, I’m not so quick and proud to dance around yelling I’m American, and my son has had his life changed forever, doomed to a life of recovery and heeling, that’s with hoping he lives through it this second time. I’m right there with Cindy. I almost have the same pain in my heart. Just a simple WHY? Just some facts he can give us to support anything told us to believe. We deserve that. The silence is killing all of us. No Democrat/Republican crapola, just answers to us, we the people, us Americans. What will I be waving the flag to in the hanger when I’m waving good-bye to my son this time????? It’s going to be rough.

They work them 12 hours on and 12 hours off for weeks on end without one day off under those conditions. They put them in Ramadi and Fallujah with a simple unarmored humvee. Two of the many things I didn’t know the first year he was there. It’s going to be a much much longer year this time.

Good Luck Cindy and I hope your mother is okay.

    God Bless Our Troops

    A Soldier’s Mom

  5. loverevolution Says:

It makes it even more suspicious that DU closed that thread.

I was actually the one having the discussion with these people who kept insisting the field was ‘delicate’, that hay was really expensive etc and THEY KICKED ME OFF.

So many people have donated to the Crawford Peace House they have collected $90,000. At the same time Cindy had no van to camp in, was asking for tarps and rope….and the people at the Peace House and on DU are now suggesting people donate money to fix up the park in town.

There has been discussion that they paid off their mortgage, and I know people meant that money for Cindy.

Something is fishy with these people. They seem to want to keep the protest in town, even though there is tons of traffic, trouble with parking etc. It seems like they want a reason for people to keep sending them donations. If we had a big field there would be no reason for anyone to be in town at the Peace House.

I suggest that we pressure them into spending the donations on someone else’s field to park in then. Money talks, and I am sure someone would come foward if they offered to pay.

I read that Food Not Bombs is feeding people at Camp Casey- they might be a better idea for donations.

  7. mags Says:

Just checked in at DU and there is a swag of pictures of a huge tent. Doesn’t look to me as though there is a problem with room. Check out for your selves.

  8. mark Says:

Meetwithcindy.org writes that there is less room for parking now at the new site. The iconoclast writes that no one else should come, even if Steve Earle is there, there is not enough parking. It sure seems like someone is trying to squash the protest and make it smaller.

Why are they parking in town and shuttling to the protest? Why not spend some of the money for donations on renting another place to park closer to the protest? Surely these people can come up with a better idea. Cindy asked that more people come. Why are they discouraging it?

  9. loverevolution Says:

So a close associate of the Crawford Peace House, Anarchy1999, had me kicked off of DU for making suggestions, but he continues to be really rude(and I was the one kicked off)

    “loverevolution, I have an idea.
Since you are full of so many great ideas why don’t you come to Crawford and help facilitate this. Heck, maybe you could even help volunteer to keep track of what is being spent, where it is being spent and why it is being spent and is it really for Cindy.

You seem to have a great deal of knowledge about what we all should be doing and how it should be handled.

So, can you make it or not?”

Have you called the Peace House yet?”

This person talks with the Peace House people all the time, but wouldn’t answer the question about what happened with the acreage. They kept getting angry and writing things like “JUST DROP IT! THIS IS NOT A PARTY!!” I am sure if Fred changed his mind it would have been easy enough to explain. But Fred presented the option to the Peace House folks and it is clear by this person’s reactions that they are the ones who turned it down.

here’s another dig at me after they had me kicked off…

” If only our dear departed “loverevolution” were still here. She/he could

Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 01:37 AM by anarchy1999

possibly see where part of the donations may possibly have disappeared to. The “Taj Mahtent on the Texas prairie”! RIP, “loverevolution”.

    Moment of silence.”

That’s funny because I am the one who suggested that they rent a tent and even sent them the phone number in the waco yellow pages.

Either they are corrupt or really stupid. Anne Wright had it in the iconoclast for three days that Cindy needed a van. With 90,000 in the bank…they have never heard of a rental place??

Another weird thing, PeaceHouse people were complaining the mail wasn’t being delivered so now you must send donations to a PO box in Dallas. You can still send packages and post cards to Crawford though. Does that make sense? They said it was because of problems with the post office, they would only accept 10 digit zip codes. But when a DUer called, the guy at the post office said they had no idea what they are talking about.

Why are donations being diverted to Dallas, where only the the Peace House owners can keep track of them…hmmm…..

  10. CaptainBlinky Says:

Just a thought: It does all sound fishy, but this kind of infighting is EXACTLY what the other side is hoping for. Whatever causes it becomes irrelevant. We all need to be united behind Cindy, period. Don’t lose sight.

  11. loverevolution Says:

you know, I don’t want to cause fighting, but I can’t let them steal money from progressives, folks who are usually pretty broke to begin with.

And the problem with the parking is causing them to tell people not to come. They are telling musicians not to come because it is not a celebration. I think we have to stand up to whomever is controlling this event.

I just read from Cindy’s new blog that…
“I have always called a liar a liar and a hypocrite a hypocrite. Now I am urged to use softer language to appeal to a wider audience. Why do my friends at Camp Casey think they are there?”

I have been watching cointelpro for a while, they assume leadership positions, pat eachother on the back, then run the momentum into the ground. Coincidentally, the people running meetwithcindy.org are the same people that ran the Kucinich campaign and we all know how that worked out.

  12. loverevolution Says:

me again… I just had to document another post from DU…these people are sick!

    flyarm at DU
“I thought that gal was that nut from the nasty posts on My friend..she was definately nuts!!

i was reading her and screaming..shut the f up!! lol..and if she said “party” one more time ..i was ready to climb inside my computer and…well …you know what i mean!! put me in a room with her for 5 minutes ..and i would give her a party!! and it would certainly be memorable!!

    wow is she really gone??”

give her a party?? What the hell does that mean?

Thanks for giving me a place to vent, Ben.

  13. Kim Says:

I read this at the iconoclast- it looks like Fred was ready to turn the acreage over to the protesters wednesday morning at 10:00 am. It sure seems like it would be better if there was more space and everyone could be in the same place.
    ——
“Local landowner Fred Mattlage, a distant relative of Larry Mattlage, held a telephone press conference this morning at 8:30 to explain his reasons for donating land to Cindy Sheehan and Camp Casey.

“I wanted to provide this property as a place where they could peacefully assemble,” he said. “This was an act of compassion to a mother whose lost her son.”

Mattlage is a 52-year-old self-employed small business owner who resides in Waco. He is a distant relative of Larry Mattlage, the man who fired the shotgun into the air on Sunday.

The property he is offering is co-owned by his brothers Karl and Mark and sister, Patricia. Brother Mark actually owns the one acre tract where the new camp site will be. This one acre is at the corner of Prairie Chapel Road and Camen Church Road. Directly across from the one acre, the Mattlages own a 212-acre tract, which they will make available for parking purposes.

The 212-acre tract is to be opened today at 10 a.m. by Mattlage. He is asking that Camp Casey supporters have a person at the gate of the property at all times due to the fact that there are cattle on the site. Gates will have to be kept shut.

Mattlage went on to say, “These people did not approach me at any time. I went to the Peace House in Crawford to offer the land, but it is not my desire to put them in closer proximity to the President. I only want to alleviate some of the problems with the residents.”
    ——–
They took the one acre, and then didn’t alleviate the problems. The Crawford Peace House has everyone drive into town, park there, and then shuttle out to camp casey 1 or 2. So we have protesters all over the place now, in town, parked and camping on the road in two places. I don’t think that is what Fred had in mind.

  14. CaptainBlinky Says:

The “crazies” are the ones to keep an eye on. The ones who want to turn this into a circus are the ones who want to .. uhm, turn it into a circus. Camp Casey is a shining example of what makes the Consititution a beacon of hope in the world. Those who want to turn it into Woodstock or some other hippyfest are the exact people who need to be invited to leave.

W and his cronies have offered us a war without sacrifice. This is an oxymoron. We cannot counter this deception with parties and dancing, as much as that seems to be the way americans protest these days. We’re talking about the deaths of our sons and daughters, not legalizing pot. Cointel will bring in the VW buses full of hippiecrites; keep them in their place. This is NOT a tree hug fest, and we all need to make sure it doesn’t become a page 5 feel-good story.

I know this is off-topic, but those of you out there should bear it in mind. I can only help in spirit from virginia =\

  15. The hippies were right! Says:

    Dude,
anyone who has a problem with the hippies just doesn’t get it. They were right and we need to finish the revolution they started when cointelpro got involved. If they would have exposed all of the lies about Vietnam, and shamed the people who supported the lies, perhaps this wouldn’t have happened again.

Bands bring in crowds. Cindy wants as many people as possible. She doesn’t want everyone to sit around crying. She said it was about hope! People like you keep trying to keep the protest down by suggesting that woodstock was a bad thing. You might want to check around but everyone had a good time there. People remember it as a life changing event. Protests have always been furthered by folk artists. Remember the beatles?

  16. The hippies were right! Says:

and another thing, who the fuck cares about how the corporate media portrays anything? If you had been paying attention, you might notice that they no longer have any credibility and will lower themselves to any level to illustrate that. No one believes them anymore. You really think we should let ourselves be controlled by the media? You sound like the people who told Cindy to tone down her message to appeal to more people.

  17. mark Says:

yeah, the muscians are really ruining the message

“Steve Earle made a very important point Saturday night: “The war ended when my father came to oppose it.” Cindy has created space for mainstream America to join the opposition to the war.

Earlier today Shawn Mullins rocked the camp with Dylan’s “Masters of War” and tonight Joan Baez brought the camp to tears and filled everyone with hope.”

  18. Biologist Says:

I do not know what soil is in that field, but the soils I saw around Crawford are a black clay. A good rain and you are walking around with 3 inches of mud on each foot, and your car gets stuck. A little more rain and your car sinks to the frame. Drag 100 cars out of it and you have a minihabitat disaster.

  19. rob brown Says:

Soldier’s Mom, I’m a soldier’s dad in the same boat–and last time I cried for months. My son signed up right after 9/11 without discussing this with me. I would have told him not to get caught up in this nationalistic fever, to wait until we have enough “facts.” That, too, would have done no good, because Bush stated one set of facts, then got caught in a lie and created new facts, then… Somehow, I, too, will support him, even though his cousin Paulie Balint died 1 1/2 weeks ago in Iraq. This sucks. My son is so screwed in the head, from nightmares, to getting high (which as far as I know he never did until he went overseas)… yet he is being ordered back? Take care, hold your head up. I do not pray, I do not believe in a God. I just hope and send good thoughts the way of our sons and the survivors oif the 2,991 soldiers who have died unnecessarily and for lies of a criminal president thus far. I’m glad Cindy Sheehan is doing something. If I thought I could, I would join her, but it would further demoralize my Bud. Rob B., Dallas TX
